Chemical Free, Natural Skin Care – How Can You be Sure

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

People are having adverse reactions from their skin care products and our bodies are getting bombarded with potentially toxic substances it can not eliminate.

Wildcrafted Herbal Products have been actively taking part in educating the general public and informing them of the potential dangers of not reading the labels carefully and just buying their skin care products based on advertising slogans and marketing strategies which are often misleading if not down right false…

Below is the report (in part) which was aired on Channel Seven’s Today Tonight:

Expert warns of toxic cosmetics

REPORTER: Glenn Connley

Expert warns of toxic cosmetics

A toxicologist has warned consumers to avoid certain additives in cosmetics, saying they could do long term damage or even be deadly.

From moisturiser to shampoo, hair dye to toothpaste, Australians are using lotions and potions daily, trying to look better, younger, smoother and softer.

But what exactly are we asking our bodies to absorb? Toxicologist Dr Peter Dingle said many of the cosmetics that are meant to make us look good and defy age, were actually doing significant, long-term damage.

He said chemical additives, often used in creams as a preservative, could trigger dangerous – even deadly – allergic reactions.

“Over the long term, these are not improving the quality of your skin, they’re damaging the quality of your skin,” Dr Dingle said.

“So you’re going to end up looking older and more wrinkled, the more of these chemicals you put on the skin. That’s the incredibly ridiculous thing about it.”

Eve Diamante had a bad reaction to a sorbolene cream, usually renowned as a simple, safe product. After a burning sensation, Eve frantically washed her face in cold water to ease the pain.

“The water was drying out my face and it even started to bleed along here, if you look in the photos there’s quite deep cracks and it started to bleed,” Eve said.

“My eyes were swollen, I had a red face, but the funny thing was I had a red line to where I didn’t put cream.”

Eve consulted a dermatologist, who discovered she’d reacted to a chemical preservative known as chlorocresol. It took two weeks and a layer of skin to get Eve back to normal.

“All my skin peeled off and that took the heat off my face,” Eve said. “I still looked quite wrinkly and red.”

Melanie Brown’s cleansing mousse freebie didn’t feel quite such a bargain when her skin reacted violently after just two applications.

“It looked swollen,” Melanie said. “It was very red, scaly, it had little white pimples forming on top of the redness and it felt awful, it was burning and itching and it just felt terrible.”

Leanne Black, 30, reacted to a foaming gel which she said turned her clear complexion into a spotty, inflamed nightmare.

“I just thought it was something I’d eaten or drank, but it wasn’t and it continued to get worse and worse,” Leanne said. “And I got some peeling on my nose and cheek areas, and when I put moisturiser on, it would sting quite a lot.”

Neither Leanne nor Melanie were sure which ingredient caused the reaction.

Cosmetics manufacturer L’Oreal insisted its products met all Australian safety standards, but Melanie claimed she was not the only one to have a problem with the cleansing mousse.

“I’m a member of an online forum for women, Vogue Australia, and there’s a whole thread dedicated to just this product and the reaction that a lot of women are getting is identical to what I had: the redness, the inflaming, there was one woman that woke up with her eye fused shut,” Melanie said.

While chemical preservatives were found in many foodstuffs and cosmetics these days, doctors said people were now also more susceptible to allergies. Either way, Dr Dingle said many of the chemicals were unnecessary.

“There is no need for all these chemicals,” Dr Dingle said. “One, you can make simpler products. Two, you can make safer products and just by reducing the number of chemicals that go in people are going to be exposed to a lot less chemicals.”

No matter what the label promises, consumers were advised to test a small amount of creams or cosmetics on their hand or wrist before smearing it elsewhere.

Comment:

This is what we at Wildcrafted Herbal Products have been saying now for 20 years and is the reason why all our skin and personal care products are formulated by a medical herbalist and Aromatherapist, and why only herbal extracts and pure essential oils (as opposed to isolated, extracted active ingredients) are used.

After all, you don’t add a beat-carotene tablet to your salad instead of a carrot, do you?

Also be careful of terms such as hypo allergenic, which are marketing terms and really have no meaning what so ever – you can be allergic to anything, even the most natural, purest form of a substance – peanuts are natural, possibly even organic, but if you’re allergic to them you will have a reaction, which could kill you. It’s that simple.

In some brands of Natural skin care, Natural can mean the addition of one natural ingredient to a cocktail of ‘un-natural’ chemicals; Organic can be as little as 1 per cent organic content…

Doctor Dingle named a danger list of ingredients to avoid.

1. Formaldehyde, an industrial chemical linked to burning eyes, nose and throat, rashes, coughing and nausea.

2. SLS, or sodium lauryl sulphate, which can reportedly affect the brain, eyes, heart and liver.

3 and 4. DEA and TEA, di- and tri-thanolamine, used as wetting agents in creams and shampoos, linked in research with stomach, oesophagus, liver and bladder cancers.

5. Propylene glycol, used as a humidifier in cosmetics, which has been connected with liver abnormalities and kidney damage.

“Sometimes its just the combination of chemicals,” Dr Dingle said. “And there are so many combinations that it’s just impossible to actually pick out a chemical that could be causing the problem.”

In Anna Bragaglia’s case, the chemical was PPD, or paraphenylenediamine, used in hair dyes.

“My son came into my room early in the morning and he just looked at me and he started crying, and he said ‘Mummy, what’s wrong with your face?’,” Anna said.

Anna had put a burgundy tint through her hair at her hairdresser. Within a day, the swelling and pain was unbelievable, she said.

“I think people need to be more aware of the dangers because it has become a society where everyone’s high on looks and everything like that,” Anna said.

“So I really think that people need to look into that, read more about it before they start using products which are available from the supermarket shelf and chemists.”

Is That Natural Skin Care Product Really Natural

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

The cosmetic industry relies heavily on the term “Natural”. It sounds good and makes us think of rose petals, rainwater and scented herbs. After all if it’s a natural skin care product it must be good to use on your skin?

Most people think a product labelled as natural has no chemical ingredients. Unfortunately there are many natural skin and hair care products that contain a multitude of chemical ingredients, such as preservatives, perfumes and emulsifiers, with maybe a trace of a few herbs or vitamins thrown in just to make them “legal”.

Most people don’t react to chemicals in cosmetics, but for those who are prone to allergic reactions, the consequences can be alarming and even life threatening.

Chemical molecules are easily absorbed through the skin. Although our bodies can usually process and eliminate these substances quite effectively, we live in an age of pollution and breathe in enough toxins without rubbing them into our skin! These toxic chemicals can cause an excess of free radicals in our systems. This can damage our organs, particularly the liver and kidneys, and put our immune system under stress.

There are no guarantees even a natural cosmetic will not cause an allergic reaction, especially if your skin is very sensitive. For example Lanolin is found in many “home made” cosmetics. It’s a natural product which is obtained from sheep’s wool. Lanolin can contain allergens and possibly fertilizers and pesticides as well, all which can be absorbed by our skin.

How can we guard against allergens and toxins in the cosmetics we buy? One thing to do is to read the label to make sure there are not too many ingredients in that bottle or jar. The more ingredients a product contains, the greater the chance that your skin isn’t going to like one of them!

What should we look for in a natural cosmetic? Essential oils are usually safe for most people, they also have some great skin benefits. Oils from fruits and nuts are ok as are any cereals eg oats. Alpha Lipoic Acid sounds alarming but is actually quite safe. Aloe vera and tea tree oil are harmless and beneficial.

What to avoid? Well the list is as long as your arm but here’s just a few: Tetra Sodium EDTA, Isopropyl Myristate, Propolene Glycol, Sodium Laurel Sulphate and Phenoxyethanol. While these may not cause any problems for most people, a build up over time could be a problem.

Remember many natural skin care products won’t have the same keeping power as their chemical counterparts so keep them in the fridge to prolong shelf life.

How You Can Use Your Diet as a Major Component for Your Natural Skin Care Program

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

With so much emphasis today on staying healthy and looking good we see many remedies for skin care and a healthy look, that it is sometime very confusing. Although there are many great products being marketed today there are also many things that one can do to assist your body in creating and producing beautiful skin from the inside out. The following foods incorporated into your diet will make your natural skin care program work in synergy with your body to produce beautiful skin.

People spend a lot of money every year to look good. To have beautiful smooth wrinkle free skin but neglect to give the attention to the foods that they consume that will add to
their beautiful skin. It is not enough to just exfoliate, and use the lotions and potions to have beautiful skin. Beautiful skin comes from the generation of healthy vibrant cells being produced from within your body.

One of the most important substances you can put into your body to aid in producing excellent skin is water. Water flushes toxins out of your body, it help you loss weight and is a major source of hydration. If you are only putting a moisturizer on top of your skin this is not enough. How about adding moisture to your skin from the inside by drinking plenty of clean purified water.

Your diet and the foods you consume not only affect your skin but your overall health. If you choose to put garbage in your body you will get garbage out. So for starter I’ll tell you what to avoid. Avoid greasy fatty foods and processed food. Being today to put wholesome fresh foods into your body and let that nutrition rebuild and keep your skin and entire body vibrant and healthy.

For starters you should be consuming foods that contain vitamin C. Vitamin C promotes healing, help rebuild collagen, and produces skin with elasticity and firmness. Food such as citrus fruits, strawberries, tomatoes, broccoli and cabbage are high in vitamin C and can help in reducing wrinkles and fine lines.

Green tea is also an excellent anti-oxidant which improves your immune system and is an excellent substitute for coffee.

Soy proteins which have a high amount of amino acids, flavonoids and vitamin E help the skin retain moisture and give the skin a smooth appearance.

The essential fatty acids which are your omega 3’s and 6’s are the good fats that the entire body needs. These good fats will help your skin, hair, nails, muscles and all your cellular functions. It will help to clear up blemishes and reduce wrinkles. Food like olives, olive oil, almonds and avocados are excellent sources of your good fats. Also fresh fish like salmon will provide a good source of your omega 3’s and 6’s.

And let’s not forget our greens. Vegetables such as spinach, collard greens, and kale are high in vitamins A, C and E. They also contain good amounts of iron and fiber. These foods help to reduce wrinkles and give your skin a healthy look.

Another great food to help your skin and your immune system is yogurt. Yogurt contains friendly bacteria which help improve your digestion which in turn improves your immune system. An improved immune system will definitely support your largest organ, your skin.

One other food that will assist your body and your immune system to produce healthy skin is garlic. Garlic is high in anti-oxidants and has been used for centuries for medicinal purposes. It will assist your body and immune system to stay healthy and fight off infections and disease.

And now the best part. For all you people who desire great healthy looking skin this will probably be your favorite part. Cocoa powder which is found in chocolate is very high in polyphenol anti-oxidants. It has twice the anti-oxidant properties of red wine and three times the anti-oxidant properties of green tea. Dark chocolate typically has the highest percentage of cocoa. I have seen some dark chocolates as high as 83% cocoa. Now remember everything in moderation. Don’t go and eat a box of chocolate every day. Just a small piece every few days and only eat the finer dark chocolates with the highest amounts of cocoa.

You see there are many excellent nutritious foods you can consume that will add to your natural skin care program and will also help with your overall health and well being. So
eat well, look good and keep your skin healthy from the inside out.

Natural Acne Skin Care

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Acne is one of the oldest skin problems, and troubles young and old alike. Caused by hormonal disorders, overactive glands or bacterial infections, acne causes skin inflammation, pimples, scars and discoloration. This problem is most obvious in fair-complexioned people.

Using chemical-based creams to treat acne not only has side effects like red or dried skin, but can also harm the skin permanently. To get rid of this problem, experts recommend natural therapies. Natural skin-care treatments for acne are considered extremely reliable, effective and safe.

Herbs like basil and turmeric are extremely effective in treating acne. These can counter any sort of bacteria effectively and help one regain a healthy, radiant skin. Also, there are innumerable creams, lotions and pills available that are made from natural ingredients and are highly effective in treating acne.

Natural skin care products for acne treatments also contain vitamins like A, B6 and C, along with minerals like zinc, which not treat acne but also nourish the skin. Along with using natural skin care products for acne treatment, it is also advised to keep the infected area clean, and maintain a nutritious diet rich in vegetables and fruits.

The markets are deluged with acne cures that claim to be 100% natural and promise to cure acne quickly. Therefore, it is always advisable that a dermatologist be consulted before using any of the treatments. Before you can effectively treat a case of acne, you must first determine what caused it.

A regular, continual application of natural skin care products, under expert advice, can go a long way toward keeping acne at bay.

Natural Skin Care Products – Why Hundreds are Making the Switch to Natural Products

Natural skin care products seem to be on the rise recently. Go to your local drugstore and you’ll see evidence of this.

“Natural Skin Care” seems to be quite a buzzword lately, and with good reason – many natural skin care ingredients actually outperform their man-made counterparts. As with any other natural beauty product, unfortunately the adage “you get what
you pay for” applies almost two-fold here.

If you’re spending very little, odds are you are getting a watered down or poorly manufactured version of the primary natural ingredient you are looking to receive skin repair benefits from. Natural skin products must contain a high enough concentration and quality of the essential
nutrients, vitamins or compounds they advertise in order to have any effect at all in most cases.

So, to give you an idea of what to look for, here is a summary of a few of the most potent natural skin care products. Some can actually be taken as an oral skin health supplement, while all of them come in topical application form. They are
all absolutely the most powerful skin mending agents available
today. You won’t believe the difference these can make in your skin tone, clarity, firmness, and reduction of lines and wrinkles. It is nothing short of amazing that these powerful compounds are found in nature and have such profound healing properties.

1.)DMAE or Dimethylaminoethanol

This natural compound, found naturally in the skin of fish (especially wild salmon)is known for providing excellent collagen support to the outermost layers of skin (the most important since this is what shows on the surface!). The results are tighter, firmer skin and a
great reduction in fine lines and wrinkles. It also is known for helping to reduce age spots (liver spots), and is a well known memory and concentration enhancer.

2.)Alpha Lipoic Acid

This natural acid is a very potent antioxidant that eliminates free radicals, one of the primary factors in the aging of skin and breakdown of skin elasticity. When applied externally and taken internally as a skin supplement, it can dramatically improve skin’s appearance within a matter of just a few weeks.

3.)Vitamin C

Well, Vitamin C truly is the miracle cure vitamin! Topical Vitamin C protects the skin from sun damage, and even helps reverse the effects of photodamage (sun damage) on the skin. It protects from sun damage(in conjunction with a sunscreen of course), by neutralizing free radicals. Vitamin C is actually the only antioxidant that is proven to increase the production and synthesis of collagen. Vitamin C is an absolute must-have in your skin care regimen regardless of your skin type.

4.)Retinol

Retinol is a natural form of vitamin A. It helps the skin regenerate and rejuvenate in a healthy manner and is especially effective on sensitive skin since it does not cause redness or peeling.

Using a combination of these four very effective natural skin care products, you can’t help but see a noticeable difference in your skin. Don’t be surprised if you suddenly start receiving complements like “have you been on vacation?”, or “wow – what are you using on your skin?”. This stuff is that good. Give it a few weeks, you’ll see a huge improvement.

Who says we have to accept dull, wrinkled, broken out or uneven skin? You will never go back to a normal skin care routine once you’ve found the right natural skin care products!

Treat Your Skin Naturally With Natural Skin Care Treatments

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

Naturally, your skin is vital to your health. It helps regulate your body temperature, it absorbs and eliminates chemicals and acts as a protective barrier to often-harmful elements. Many of us may think good skin care means simply keeping it clean and moisturized, but skin requires much better treatment than that to be healthy.

Basically, good skin care begins with a healthy diet, hydration and sufficient rest. It is also essential to protect skin from the sun, harsh weather and toxins. As skin ages, regardless of environmental factors, it continually loses collagen; the main supportive protein of connective tissues, resulting in diminished elasticity and functionality.

Of course, there’s also the “beauty” factor of maintaining healthy skin. The importance of appearances is evident in our society, now more than ever.

Consequentially, the cosmetics market holds a plethora of skin care products designed to reduce the ill effects of aging and environment on the skin, as well as to remedy many common skin disorders. Among the most popular of these products are natural skin care treatments.

Why natural, as opposed to synthetic products? Well, the skin absorbs chemicals, whether they are natural or not. Natural nutrients are more easily utilized and eliminated by the body than synthetic chemicals. With synthetics there is also a chance there may be toxins involved with the processing of them. Natural skin care treatments, on the other hand, are generally made up of herbal extracts, essential oils, and fruit extracts that contain naturally occurring substances.

Undoubtedly, having healthy skin means making healthy choices. Given the increasingly hostile environment our skin is exposed to, our longevity and value of appearances, maintaining a good skin care regime is certainly a good choice to make. Using only natural skin care treatments in your daily skin care regime is an even better one.

Natural Skin Care for Your Children

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

The skin of your children is soft, wrinkle free, supple, smooth and usually unblemished. “Smooth as a baby’s bottom”, is an expression used to indicate that some object or material has an extremely smooth finish or is smooth to the touch, just like a baby’s bottom.

Young skin is smooth and has a youthful appearance – of course, it’s young. As children grow up and their bodies start to mature, so to does their skin – teenagers often get acne and in some cases this can even lead to permanent scaring on their faces.

But there is another less obvious aging process that has a long term rather than a short term effect on the health and vitality of our skin – the sun.

Did you know, that 50% of exposure to the sun is done before we are 20? As young kids, we spend vast amounts of time outside and play in the sun, on the beach, in the snow, on playgrounds and so on. The amount of UV radiation that our skin is exposed to is huge.

The effects of this exposure however, is not obvious except for the occasional sunburn, but once that heals, there is little evidence of long-term damage. That is unless you could look below the surface of the skin.

The damage of UV radiation is focused on the dermis of our skin, this is where it has the greatest impact and that is where the long-term damage accumulates. Yes, the damage is cumulative. More UV exposure, more damage.

The media has helped to promote awareness of the risks of skin cancer due to excessive exposure to the sun, but rarely do we hear about other factors, such as premature signs of aging of our skin. Break down of collage, dehydration, and so on.

Often it is not until we reach our late 20’s or early 30’s that we start seeing the first little fine lines and begin to think about our skin care on a more serious level. But by now, most of the damage has already been done and all we are doing is to try to prevent the inevitable.

So, what should we do? Well, the first step is to start educating our children. Babies are used to having creams and lotions put on their bodies. So why do we stop when the nappy period of their lives is over?

It is at this point that children should be encouraged to put natural creams and lotions on their bodies after they have a shower or a bath. From the time they go to kindergarten, if not earlier, they will be spending many hours outdoors and sure we use the sunscreens, hats and generally try to keep the sun off their bare skin, but at the same time, we should encourage the use of natural skin care creams and lotions to protect, nourish, hydrate and cleanse their young and tender skin.

For example, introducing your children to using natural soaps rather than the harsh, commercially available types, will help their skin maintain its natural pH balance and thus the skin’s Acid Mantel.

Of course when they get grease or oil on their skin you may need to use a more powerful cleaner, but there are plenty of natural soaps available for all skin cleansing jobs. Wildcrafted’s Heavenly Hand & Body Wash is perfectly able to get rid of stubborn dirt and grime and at the same time it is kind and nourishing to their skin.

Teach your children to use natural hand creams. The skin on our hands gets more ware and tear then any other part using a good hand cream will help to keep their skin soft, supple and healthy.

Teach them to use a natural moisturising cream on their face and on their body. Choose a natural moisturiser that’s suitable for Normal skin, as children do not tend to have oily or dry skin, this usually starts around the time of puberty.

If you continue teaching your children from an early age to use natural skin care products on their skin, they will naturally continue this process and their skin will thank you and them in the long term.

Natural Skin Care Regime for Ethnic Differences in Skin Characteristics

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

The world is a big place and there are many different cultures, Europeans, Scandinavians, Asians, Africans, Hispanics and many, many more. Each of these cultures tends to have certain characteristics such as eye colour, hair colour, skin colour, etc,. Inherent with cultural backgrounds is a difference in skin types. For example, western cultures such as the central and northern Europeans have a tendency to fair complexions, hair and eye colour, while southern Europeans dent to have darker hair, brown eyes and darker, olive skin tones.

Africans and African Americans, have very dark or almost black skin, usually dark or black hair and brown eyes. Genetically, this skin type is less susceptible to the UV rays, although their skin can still get burned.

Asians on the other hand have a yellowish skin tone and can have brown or blue eyes but have mostly dark or black hair. Yes, genetics does have its opinion on how we look. The cultural differences are reflected in the skin and the genetic factors play an important role in how well our skin looks, how ‘tough’ it is and how vulnerable it is to certain skin problems.

For example, cultures that have a tendency to body hair, also have a tendency to oily skin and therefore have a potential problem with blocked secretory glands resulting in pimples and other skin problems. On the other hand, the Irish, who have a tendency to red hair and very fair skin, have less of a problem with oily skin, but they do tend to get burned easily and thus stand a greater risk to skin cancers. Similarly the Scandinavians and other central and northern Europeans and Americans.

Below are some generalised characteristics of various skin types from different cultural backgrounds:

Skin Characteristics of people with Anglo-Saxon origins

  • Fair, dry thin-skinned
  • Scars heal well
  • Signs of aging appear earlier
  • Burn easily in the sun
  • Bruising more obvious
  • Increased chance of skin cancer

Skin Characteristics of people with Southern Mediterranean origins

  • Oily, olive dark complexion
  • Signs of aging appear later
  • Cartilage tends to droop
  • Darker, thicker scars more common
  • Wrinkles appear later and in more localized areas
  • Skin cancer is rare

Skin Characteristics of people with Northern European origins / German and Scandinavian

  • Fair, blue-eyed, blonde
  • Thin skin
  • Scars heal well
  • Signs of aging appear early
  • Bruising more obvious
  • Greater chance of skin cancer

Skin Characteristics of people with African/African-American origins

  • Signs of aging appear very late
  • Very little fine wrinkling
  • Formation of keloids is possible
  • Pigmentation changes may occur
  • Thicker cartilage hard to change
  • Skin cancers are very rare

Skin Characteristics of people with Northern European/Irish and northern England

  • Ruddy freckled complexion
  • Red hair
  • Scars usually thin
  • Signs of aging appear later
  • Bruises easily
  • Pigmentation problems
  • Skin cancers are most common in this type

Skin Characteristics of people with Asian origins

  • Signs of aging appear late
  • Fine wrinkling does not usually occur
  • Pigmentation changes may occur
  • Skin cancers are very rare

Skin Characteristics of people with Southern European origins

  • Dark, oily brunette complexion
  • Signs of aging appear later
  • Fine wrinkling less common
  • Bruising lasts longer
  • Scars may be thicker and darker
  • Skin cancers are less common

Identifying the correct, natural skin care system for your skin’s characteristics is essential and may need to be adjusted depending on your specific genetic influences, as within each of these groups, there is a wide range in skin tones, which tend to overlap from group to group.

Each of the different categories of skin characteristics has various advantages and disadvantages specific to that group. However, the overall structures and functions of our skin are very similar and are therefore cared for in very similar ways. Knowing your skin’s particular strengths and weaknesses, you can tailor your skin care approach to your particular skin-characteristics.

Natural Skin Care Products

Friday, January 30th, 2009

Natural skin care products are health and beauty products that use only botantical ingredients. No synthetic materials or chemicals, including perfume, dyes or artificial colourings are used to create these products. Most often, natural skin care products are not tested on animals and are non-sensitizing to the skin. They are easily available nowadays in many shops set up in response to rising demand and consumer affluence.

Many skin care chemists use skin nourishing oils in their formula but blend them with them with various synthetics. Some of these chemicals unfortunately limit the effect of the natural ingredients. They also prevent the natural evaporation of moisture from the skin and their prolonged use removes sebum from the skin. The skin becomes dry and can become irritated. For people who are prone to skin irritations, such products may not be suitable.

So what ingredients are you likely to find in natural skin care products? Here are a couple of examples:

* Aloe vera – This is a common base used in lotions and gels in products applied to all parts of the body. Gentle and healing, it has a softening and smoothening affect on dry skin.

* Baking soda – This adds smooth texture to lotions for the face and the body. It is also a pH stabilizer.

* Beeswax – This is a great base with a pleasant smell for body butters, face masks, salves, hair masks, and more.

* Coconut oil, almond oil – These are bases as well for various shampoos and added to body lotions and bath beads.

* Citric acid – This is a naturally occurring preservative and used as a base for bath fizzes and ’scrubs.’

* Emulsifying wax – This comes from fats and esters and helps keep natural skin care products from separating.

* Lecithin powder and liquid – The powder form is a thickener for lotions and is a mild preservative. The liquid form is more easily blended in certain oils than its powdered cousin and also acts as a mild preservative.

* Sea salt – This is a great base for scrubs and also used to add texture to face washes.

* Stearic acid – Found in animal and vegetable fats, this is an emulsifying agent that lends a cooling effect and a waxy feel to lotions and deodorants.

Are natural skin care products better than mainstream products? Many times, natural skin care products work better than synthetic. But they are likely to cost more in most cases; not unless you make them yourselves from home made recipes. However, natural skin care products made from home made recipes usually cannot be kept beyond 3 days. So, you may need to continually update your supplies.

If you have dry or acne skin, then it is more important to choose wisely, despite the costs. Take your time trying out different natural skin care products until you find the one that is right for you and your skin.

Natural Skin Care And How You Can Benefit

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Natural skin care is the buzz word in today’s world – at least, when it comes to wrinkles. With the popularity of Botox when it first hit the market, companies were eagerly trying to replicate the results without turning it into a medical procedure.

Well, there are plenty of skin care products that have been developed with all natural ingredients, designed specifically for aging skin.

As a quick summary, sun exposure, smoking and the natural aging process all contribute to your skins diminished ability to create collagen and elastin, which are the fibers holding skin together
and keeping it smooth and young looking.

If you’re looking for a natural skin care product, try a product that contains Argireline. This ingredient is derived from amino acids that occur naturally, and works to relax facial tension.

When your facial muscles aren’t tense, they will not contribute to wrinkles. Sounds great, doesn’t it? Edelweis extract is another great ingredient. A strong antioxidant, what it does is clean up the damaging free radicals caused by metabolism and pollutants, in addition to blocking ultraviolet light from penetrating the skin. Shea Butter is also a beneficial component. A natural moisturizer and skin firmer, shea butter promotes the healing of skin, while working to prevent dryness and wrinkles. When choosing an anti-aging product, be sure to consider one with at least one of these components.

Keep in mind that with any skin care product designed for wrinkles, results will typically begin appearing within 30 days. So, do not despair if you do not see immediate results. Some products may say that you will begin to see results in as little as two weeks, but typically it takes about a month before any significant improvements are noted.

The best things about a lot of the products available on the market today are that there is no prescription needed. No costly injections, no risk of any serious side effects; just the promise of diminished fine lines and wrinkles. However, in order to seriously see continued results, you must care for your wrinkles on a somewhat regular basis.

In other words, applying the cream, lotion, or serum, exactly as the product describes, in addition to caring for your skin in other ways. Only then will you be able to benefit fully from these treatments, and truly see healthy, radiant skin.

So, for diminished fine lines and wrinkles, there are natural ways to achieve these results. The good news is, you don’t have to shell out for costly skin procedures when the nearest drugstore or internet store has everything you could need for smoother, more youthful skin. Keep in mind, most of these products work best on fine lines and wrinkles. The more serious cases may need additional help.

As long as you take preventative measures to ensure a youthful complexion, these products will ensure a radiant, more youthful complexion. Who doesn’t want beautiful, wrinkle-free skin –
